*Please Note: I used some time this week to return to Emmanuel to try to better document some of the garments here. The fashion mannequin was the only available option when these more recent pics were taken. Since my departure, the costume shop at Emmanuel has only had minimal part-time supervision from an alum, a former student of mine who works a full-time job elsewhere, and much of the time the students have no supervision with only one full-time faculty member and no full-time staff. None of the dress forms have survived. The mannequin was a prop from Theatre Macabre: WAXWORKS. The state of the shop was such that accessing the steamer or the iron was impossible, as they are without sufficient staff or faculty to keep up with the labor needed or organize a busy costume shop and oversee any student help.
I do not wish to disparage anyone by sharing this information. I know more than anyone how much time can be required to keep up with the cleaning and organization of a costume shop. It can be impossible to keep up with a shop where so many people are using the space without anyone to impose rules and guidelines. They have simply been unable to replace my labor since I left, and my former student is dealing with a Sisyphean task. But I want you to understand that I would normally present these garments with more preparation and care.
