Cruessa

You can read more about the concept of this adaptation of Medea here, but it was a COVID-era production and there were challenges specific to that era that influenced my design and construction decisions. There are also very few production photos because everything had to be pulled from a video. Our regular photographer was unable to attend the performance and the video is not currently available online.

Cruessa's gold dress was an exercise in draping with sequined fabric, while considering the needs of a dance costume. I recycled two stock costume pieces to create this costume.

First, I took an old dance costume that someone had donated to the stock at some point. The dress w/ an attached leotard, which offered a barrier between the dancer and the fabric as well as the skirt providing the structure that a slip or light underskirt might offer.

Second, I reused the metallic sequined fabric originally used for Hera's costume in Xanadu, also seen below (far right) for reference.
