The Little Mermaid:
Ursula, the Sea Witch
The production photos from this show were taken during an invited dress rehearsal evening. A few last-minute finishes were not available until the next day, like the back tentacles. There was no opportunity to address the lighting issues or test any of the design choices together before tech week due to limitations on access to the performance space and there is no light lab. I would have added sparkle of some kind to her tentacles to better define them in this low lighting, if there had been enough time and labor available.
Space backstage is also limited and tricky to navigate for this performance space, especially when it is set up for an in-the-round production, so it was necessary to keep Ursula's tentacles smaller than optimal for scale to allow the actor to be able to maneuver through their entrances.
Ursula's Bodice
This was hand drafted by me. These do not reflect seam allowance, and the pattern fit perfectly with the first draft and this design provided a place to hang her microphone.
