Dancing at Lughnasa

The Mundy Sisters (minus Kate)

(from left to right) Maggie, Rosie, Christina, Aggie

Please note that all the sisters are wearing early 20th Century style wrap-around aprons.  All are made from the same pattern, and all but Rosie's are from the same fabric, but each expresses the character traits of the sister who wears it.

I wanted to reflect their poverty in the costumes, but also their desire to remain feminine and stylish as so many women of that era did, to the varying degrees of their personalities.

The Mundy Sisters (minus Maggie)

(from left to right) Aggie, Rosie (sitting), Kate, Christina

Here you can see the art deco inspired patchwork appliques on Aggie's apron, she is the most talented dressmaker of the sisters and though she has little money, she takes great care with the details of her clothing.

Rosie and her Wellies sit center front, in a childish dress, for the young woman who will never grow up in so many ways.  Rose's dress is a pale blue floral print drop-waist, reminiscent of the 1920s.  She is the only sister to wear a cream/green print apron, as the blue check would not have read well here.
